Chief Engineer – Software | Counter UAS | Series A Funded (€40 Million+)

My client, who are building Counter UAS systems, capable of detecting, tracking and neutralising, are looking for to make an crucial hire for the business, a Chief Engineer – Software . You will be the technical backbone of the team, ensuring strong engineering practices, cross-team alignment, and delivery excellence.

Role

• Provide technical leadership across multiple software and robotics teams
• Own architectural coherence and ensure technical excellence across systems
• Stay hands-on with system design, critical integrations, reviews, and complex problem-solving
• Lead cross-team initiatives spanning autonomy, robotics, and platform software
• Build, scale, and mentor high-performing software engineering teams
• Establish a strong engineering culture focused on collaboration, ownership, and quality
• Define and evolve engineering practices, coding standards, testing strategies, and development workflows
• Contribute to and help execute the software engineering roadmap
• Translate company-level strategy into executable engineering direction

Requirements

• 5–10+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Prior hands-on experience as a robotics or autonomy software engineer
• Proven experience leading engineering teams or acting as a senior technical authority across multiple teams
• Strong architectural intuition and systems-level thinking
• Comfort making both technical and organisational decisions
• Python, C++

Logistics

• Must be willing to work On-site in Southern German
• ASAP Starter but can wait for the right candidate
• English speaking, German is a plus
