Senior Software Engineer – Identity Core

Perk

Company Overview

Perk (formerly TravelPerk) is an intelligent platform for travel and spend management that automates everything from travel bookings to expenses, invoice processing and more. Founded in 2015, the company has grown to more than 1,800 employees across 12 offices worldwide, with headquarters in London and Boston.

Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer in the Identity Core squad, you will own the authentication and authorisation systems that protect our platform and its 10,000+ customers. You will deliver robust, scalable identity, authentication, and user management solutions, ensuring security and ease of integration for internal teams and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Shape the bigger picture by contributing to the identity and security roadmap, defining how Perk’s identity platform should evolve to support SSO, enterprise provisioning and developer‑facing integrations at scale.
  • Architect for today and tomorrow by writing design documents for significant changes to our auth systems, balancing security rigour with developer experience and acting as a guardian of technical quality.
  • Lead across boundaries by setting consistent patterns for identity handling across the organisation, contributing to engineering guilds and working with architects on cross‑squad initiatives.
  • Raise the bar for everyone around you by mentoring, providing thoughtful code‑review feedback and modelling security‑first engineering practices in common tasks.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Product Leadership – translate complex business goals into technical roadmaps and de‑risk ambiguous projects through spikes and prototyping.
  • System Architecture – design scalable, evolvable identity systems with a focus on performance, failure isolation, security boundaries and maintainability.
  • Security‑First Engineering – oversee operational security, secrets hygiene, dependency risk and threat modelling as a first‑class concern.
  • Developer Platform Thinking – build an identity layer that is an easy‑to‑consume platform for other engineers, with clear abstractions and well‑documented APIs.
  • Backend Excellence – develop sophisticated backend solutions involving API design, token lifecycle management, caching strategies and complex data models for identity at scale.
  • Technical Standards – uphold engineering excellence, including CI/CD, testing strategies (including security testing) and coding standards.
  • Operational Maturity – lead observability and on‑call practices for security‑critical systems, define SLOs, manage incident response and conduct blameless post‑mortems.
  • Mentorship & Influence – grow the engineering organisation through mentorship, design reviews and influencing the roadmap with technical insight.
  • AI‑Driven Development – possess experience or strong interest in modern AI‑augmented workflows and agentic coding.

How We Work

We blend an IRL‑first approach with hybrid flexibility. This role requires you to be based within commuting distance of our hubs, though we can assist with relocation for suitable candidates worldwide. English is the official language in the office, and we expect communication and submissions in English.
